Chapter 1: The Superfruit You Shouldn't Overlook
There's one fruit that I can't get enough of, and it’s high time you consider incorporating it into your diet too!

While the cost of lettuce might deter many, my favorite fruit continues to be accessible. Despite its price, I believe the nutritional value of these remarkable fruits far outweighs the expense. I enjoy adding them to breakfast, lunch, and snacks (since I tend to skip dinner). My daughter is also a fan!
Recent human safety studies have unveiled a compound that hampers a cellular mechanism often linked to diabetes. This compound enters the bloodstream without posing risks to the kidneys, liver, or muscles.
The fruit I'm raving about is none other than the beloved avocado!
Sadly, about 25% of Canadians face obesity and related chronic conditions, including Type 2 diabetes. Insulin resistance hampers the body’s ability to eliminate glucose from the bloodstream effectively. When our cells' energy centers, known as mitochondria, struggle to fully oxidize fatty acids, complications arise. This incomplete oxidation is often worsened by obesity and diabetes, which disrupts the body's natural fat-burning processes.
Researchers have identified a unique molecule present only in avocados, called Avocatin B. This substance aids in improving complete oxidation in skeletal muscles and the pancreas, thereby reducing insulin resistance.
A notable study involving mice provided intriguing insights. Mice subjected to high-fat diets for eight weeks to induce obesity and insulin resistance were then given Avocatin B for five weeks. Those treated with this avocado-derived compound gained weight at a significantly slower rate compared to their counterparts, and more importantly, they exhibited improved insulin sensitivity. This enhancement enabled their bodies to absorb and utilize blood glucose more effectively, even while consuming a high-fat diet.
While these results are specific to mice, similar benefits were noted in humans who took Avocatin B while following a Western diet. Although weight reductions were observed, they were not statistically significant. Researchers have safely administered a suitable form of Avocatin B in supplement form to humans, aiming for further trials to address metabolic disorders.
The pill utilized in this human trial received approval in 2020 and is reportedly available through SP Nutraceuticals Inc.
However, relying solely on avocados is not enough; the concentration of Avocatin B varies in each fruit, and the exact mechanisms of its digestion and absorption when consumed whole remain unclear.
What is unequivocal is that incorporating avocados into your diet won't jeopardize your weight loss journey or overall health. Pairing it with regular exercise creates a perfect synergy for wellness.
While there isn't a miracle solution for diabetes or obesity, the journey begins and ends with nutrition. My love for avocados remains strong, not only for their taste but also for their incredible health benefits. This discovery could be groundbreaking for those struggling with obesity and diabetes.
