For the first thirty years of my life, I was not an avid reader. There were times when I didn't even finish a single book in a year. Even as I pursued a career as a writer, my reading habits remained limited. Although I began to read more, it was not yet a deeply ingrained practice. I foolishly believed I could succeed without it, a misconception that proved to be a significant barrier in my development as a writer.

Eventually, I hit a wall in my progress. The only solution was to immerse myself in reading. If I aspired to craft beautiful narratives, I needed to explore extraordinary literature. However, the challenge lies in knowing where to begin. Many of us recall the tedious school assignments that made reading feel like a chore, especially during vacations when we yearned for anything but books.

Reflecting on my education, I realize I never had an inspiring teacher who instilled a passion for literature in me. We often fantasize about having an educator who spoke about books with enthusiasm, conveying how literature could transform our lives or how certain characters could resonate with us on a personal level. A teacher who could spark a desire to write within us. Just because we missed that experience in school doesn't mean we can't ignite that flame ourselves.

For the past few months, I have been reading an average of one book each week. Interestingly, I no longer read with the intention of improving my craft; instead, I read purely for enjoyment. I've delved into the world of literature and discovered remarkable authors, realizing just how thrilling and engaging reading can be.

"Martin Eden" stands out as my personal favorite novel. I frequently recommend it to fellow writers and consider it essential reading. This novel imparts invaluable lessons that surpass most writing courses.

The narrative follows Martin, a sailor who becomes infatuated with a wealthy young woman. Coming from humble beginnings, he resolves to become a writer to win her affection. His journey is one of self-education and personal growth, contrasting the worlds of aspiration and reality.

It's a poignant tale of ambition and sacrifice, illustrating the struggles of a young man determined to realize his dream of becoming a writer.
