The Charm of Simplicity: A Satirical Look at Modern Life

Chapter 1: Nostalgia for the Past
Picture yourself gathered with your tribe in a cave during August. Winter is approaching, yet there’s much to accomplish. Game must be hunted, roots need to be unearthed, and food is essential to prepare for the cold months ahead.
These were the genuine good old days. Today, you relax in climate-controlled homes, oblivious to the impending chill. You modern folks are remarkably lazy; the need to bulk up for winter has vanished, yet many of you remain perpetually overweight.
In our downtime, we fashioned new arrowheads and foraged for firewood, nuts, berries, and mushrooms. We exchanged stories and occasionally sang, rather than idly staring at a screen filled with miniature figures.
We were allowed to create art on the cave walls. My artwork still graces our old dwelling—can you imagine anything you've accomplished lasting for forty thousand years?
I fondly recall the day my father and I stumbled upon a deceased bear. Although it had begun to spoil, it provided a magnificent feast. Yes, we ended up ill for a week, and Grandfather passed away from it, but he was nearly forty anyway. And bear fat? That certainly contributes to a healthy weight.
Contrast that with one of your modern men who found a dead bear and simply discarded it. What a foolish mistake for someone aspiring to leadership! My goodness! That’s not how you survive a harsh winter!
Your reliance on paper currency and electronic devices has eroded the memory skills our ancestors possessed. We had no difficulty memorizing extensive texts!
And what’s with all this complex math? Counting sufficed for poor old Grandfather; it works for me too. To us, if a number exceeds ten, it simply means "a lot." That’s all the math you need.
You’ll never understand the exhilaration of a mammoth hunt, driving them off a cliff to provide sustenance for months. Yes, there was some waste, and it could be quite odorous, but it pales in comparison to your mountains of plastic and metal refuse. I’d choose a heap of decaying mammoths over your toxic landfills any day.
And your vehicles? The air you breathe is polluted, and you’re unaware of it. It would suffocate me! Your incessant lights have obliterated the beauty of the night sky. What’s the need for illumination? When the fire dies down, it’s time to sleep!
Life was much simpler in the caves. You cannot fathom what you have sacrificed.
