Unlocking Repeatable Success: A 4-Step Systems Framework
Written on
Chapter 1: Transforming Goals into Systems
Achieving your goals doesn’t necessarily require more motivation; what you really need is an effective system to facilitate results.
As the head of an aircraft maintenance firm, I understand the ongoing challenge of achieving exceptional standards in a complex industry. It’s tempting to think that pushing yourself and your team harder will yield better outcomes. But let’s face it—how effective has that approach been so far?
You’re probably still feeling overwhelmed, trying to convert lofty ambitions into tangible, repeatable results. It’s time to break this unproductive cycle and adopt a reliable 4-step systems framework that delivers results, even when motivation is low (no more unnecessary pressure).
Step 1: Pinpoint the Constraints Affecting Your Standards
To address a problem, you first need to identify it. Rather than establishing irrelevant goals or creating time-consuming procedures, take the time to investigate what’s hindering your ability to maintain high standards consistently.
Is it a shortage of resources? A skills gap? An outdated method? Once you’ve identified the constraint, it’s as if you’ve shone a light on the culprit.
Step 2: Delegate Responsibility to the Right People
Avoid the temptation to tackle everything on your own. Find a team member or hire someone to manage the identified constraint. Empower them with the responsibility and authority to enact changes, and for the love of efficiency, allow them to perform their role without micromanagement!
That said, you should still hold them accountable for key outcomes.
Step 3: Develop Systems for Consistent Standards
This is where the real work begins. Establish templates for processes that can be repeated. For instance, if you find yourself consistently falling short of sales targets, consider implementing a more effective hiring and onboarding process for your sales team. This repeatable system can be activated as your sales figures improve.
The crucial takeaway here is that you don’t need additional goals; you need enhanced systems.
Step 4: Continuously Audit and Improve Your Systems
Did you think you could set up a system and leave it be? Regular audits and continuous improvements are essential. I’ve learned that reviewing and enhancing a process after each execution is the most effective strategy. Execute the procedure, document areas for improvement, and schedule time to make those changes later.
If you neglect to regularly refine your systems, they will become bogged down.
