1. The Stakes Have Increased

Previously, I watched full-time YouTubers with admiration, thinking how incredible it must be to do that for a living. Now that I find myself in their shoes, I can confirm that while I enjoy every day, there’s little time to stop and reflect.

The reason is straightforward: as a full-time YouTuber, every moment spent on creating content, engaging with my audience, and cultivating partnerships is crucial. Each day is an opportunity to enhance my brand, expand my audience, and refine my skills. Neglecting these chances can directly affect my ability to grow and maintain steady income.

With no safety net to cushion my fall, the pressure is palpable.

2. Financial Vigilance Becomes Paramount

Since starting my marketing business in 2015, I’ve experienced substantial financial success, thanks to relentless effort and dedication. However, choosing to become a full-time content creator meant effectively reducing my business income by half, leading to numerous sleepless nights filled with contemplation and planning.

I’ve come to terms with my decision, but it has transformed me into a meticulous penny-pincher. Indulgent purchases, like a new lens or a review unit, are now scrutinized for their potential return on investment. Every dollar must be allocated toward initiatives that yield measurable benefits for my business.

3. Time Is Your Most Valuable Asset

When I initiated this brand, I understood the importance of partnerships. Yet, I underestimated how much of my time these collaborations would demand.

Without revealing sensitive details, I’ve encountered partnerships that, while well-intentioned, consumed excessive time without yielding significant rewards. These experiences, though regrettable, are valuable lessons that enhance my growth as a business owner.

Your time is the most precious resource. If a task is draining too much of it without adequate compensation, it’s time to move on—swiftly.

4. Embracing the Need for Support

Most of my videos currently lack sponsorships, but as my channel grows, I recognize the importance of seeking support.

Operating my YouTube brand incurs various expenses, including studio rent, insurance, utilities, and the cost of review units. Additionally, I must compensate myself. This reality has compelled me to confront a common hurdle for aspiring YouTubers: the criticism regarding monetization efforts.

Some viewers question my motivations, assuming I am solely in it for the clicks. The reality is that I need income from sponsors, affiliate marketing, advertising, and digital products to sustain my channel. Thus, you may notice me referencing my Skillshare courses or suggesting Amazon affiliate links. I’ve grown indifferent to any negative judgments regarding this.

5. Total Control Over Your Schedule

While I may have painted a daunting picture thus far, the advantages of full-time content creation far outweigh the challenges.

Firstly, I get to engage in work I love while earning a decent income (provided I put in the effort). More importantly, I have complete control over my schedule—an enormous benefit I’ve enjoyed since leaving the corporate world.

For nearly two decades, I was at the mercy of others’ agendas, constantly checking my calendar for meetings. Now, I wake up with the realization that I dictate my schedule. If something is on my calendar, it’s there because I chose to put it there, leaving me solely responsible for my time management.

It’s truly liberating.

The key takeaway is simple: if you transition to full-time work, remember that your time is your most significant asset—value it highly.
