Embracing Your Inner Light: A Journey Through the Koshas

Chapter 1: Understanding Your Brilliance
Have you ever pondered why we often downplay our true potential, when in reality, we are radiant beings? Is it guilt, fear, or perhaps shame that holds us back? Could it be that we remain unaware of the profound, everlasting love that resides within us?
It appears that we often feel overwhelmed by a long list of tasks we believe must be completed before we can finally embrace the peace and fulfillment of our authentic selves. “I need to do more, learn more, be kinder, smarter, healthier, and finish that project…” This list can feel endless before we can attain the serenity and joy we yearn for.
What if I told you that nothing more is required of you?
What if you realized that all the love, light, health, creativity, compassion, peace, abundance, freedom, and happiness are accessible to you right this moment? Would that prompt you to pause and explore that possibility?
Our days often fill up with activities that may not hold true meaning. If, at the end of the day, you feel unfulfilled, or if contentment eludes you throughout the day, what purpose does all that busyness serve? Perhaps it’s just a distraction...
You only need to take a moment to pause and listen.
The Light that resides within you is INCREDIBLE and will shine forth when you allow it to.
However, I know from personal experience that stopping to let that brilliance shine can feel like a daunting task, especially after a lifetime of believing it wasn’t there. We often reinforce that limiting belief through our actions and interactions.
It truly takes just a brief moment to halt and let the Light and Love of the universe envelop you, revealing the unconditionally Loving Presence that lies behind the various masks we wear. [Learn how to unlock this understanding here.](#)
Yet, I recognize that pausing can be challenging when the momentum of daily life propels you forward. This is why I find the exploration of the Koshas to be incredibly beneficial in my life. In my previous article, I introduced you to the Koshas, or layers, which form the essence of your human experience. Remember, these layers exist and can only be perceived because of the radiant Light that shines both behind and through them.
You Possess All the Power!
Imagine a self-renewing Light, shining in everything, visible and invisible. This Light is perpetually bright, and you can channel it to focus on various aspects of your life. You can direct this Light towards your physical body and form judgments about your appearance. You can focus on your personality and decide whether you like it or wish to improve it. You can shine this Light on your intellect and determine if it requires enhancement.
What remains consistent is that the Light encompasses and highlights everything. You have the power to choose where to direct that Light at any moment. If you shine it on what you perceive as negative, you will see negativity. If you focus it on what you view as positive, then goodness will be revealed. This applies to your thoughts about your body, mind, and the world around you. THE POWER IS YOURS!
I understand it may not always feel this way, right? The distinction between being a victim of circumstances and experiencing true freedom lies in the simple choice to explore the unknown beyond what you already perceive. What you "know" has brought you to this point. If you ever feel unhappy or discontented, it might be time to look beyond those feelings.
By embracing the Light that you are, rather than your limitations, you can recognize that all these layers or Koshas exist to assist you in engaging with the world and sharing your radiant presence. Although embracing your brilliance is the most natural state of being, it can feel challenging due to a lifetime of conditioning that suggests otherwise.
Sometimes, the clearest way out of discomfort—be it mental, emotional, or physical—is to retrace the steps that led you there, but with a fresh perspective filled with Light instead of darkness.
A guided exploration through the Koshas can illuminate your boundless potential, allowing you to choose a life filled with health, peace, contentment, and joy.
In Eastern philosophies, practices associated with the Koshas can vary widely depending on the tradition and context. Here are some commonly linked practices for each Kosha that can help guide you back to the Light illuminating each layer:
- Annamaya Kosha (physical sheath): Engage in activities focused on the physical body, such as yoga postures (asanas), pranayama (breathing exercises), and physical fitness routines.
- Pranamaya Kosha (vital energy sheath): Participate in practices that emphasize breath and energy flow, including pranayama, Qigong, and Reiki.
- Manomaya Kosha (mental sheath): Explore practices that engage the mind and emotions, such as meditation, visualization, and affirmations.
- Vijnanamaya Kosha (intellectual sheath): Focus on self-reflection, inquiry, and study through contemplative practices, spiritual reading, and mantra repetition.
- Anandamaya Kosha (bliss sheath): Cultivate joy and happiness through chanting, devotional singing, and gratitude practices.
