Embracing Every Day as the Good Old Days

Chapter 1: Understanding the Good Old Days
What if we could transform every moment into what we call “the good old days?” The phrase evokes nostalgia, yet it often refers to times that have already passed us by. To truly grasp this concept, let’s take a journey into the future.
Recently, I created a video to envision the life of a successful life coach. In the opening moments, I expressed three emotions I aspire to feel upon reaching my goals:
- Alive
- Powerful
- In Awe
However, here’s an important realization: You don’t need to wait until you achieve your goals to experience these feelings. It's entirely possible to access them right now.
How can we achieve this? It's essential to recognize that our emotions stem from our thoughts. When you formulate a thought, it translates into a vibration within your body, which we interpret as an emotion.
To evoke the feelings I desire, I need to identify the thoughts that give rise to them. For instance, last Sunday, I developed a thought aimed at inspiring awe:
“Appreciate the small details that make life extraordinary.”
Some delightful moments I experienced that day, thanks to my three-year-old, included:
- The sound of his tiny feet scampering along the sidewalk.
- His astonished exclamation as I opened the car's gas tank.
- His patient wait for me to unlock the front door.
Reflecting on a quote from my fellow Cornell alum, Andy Bernard, from “The Office”:
“I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days, before you actually left them.”
Here’s the key takeaway I want to share: If you practice living each day as if it were a cherished memory, you can hold onto those feelings indefinitely.
Start your journey today:
- Choose an emotion you wish to experience.
- Identify the thought that will evoke that feeling.
What are your thoughts on this approach?
Take care,
Ken
PS. Yes, I’m currently re-watching “The Office,” which inspired my recent newsletters that reference Andy Bernard.
