Embracing Confidence: Overcoming Self-Doubt in Business

Written on

Understanding Self-Doubt

At age 41, I had gained a substantial understanding of myself, though I was no academic genius. Instead, I had achieved a PhD in life experiences, acquired not through traditional education but by trusting my instincts. This practical knowledge allowed me to experiment in the real world, leading to successful outcomes.

With this foundation, I finally took the plunge to start my own business. Until I was 35, I experienced significant self-doubt, but a series of unexpected events helped me overcome this challenge. This personal evolution provided me with the assurance needed to pursue my long-held ambition: self-employment.

The Journey to Belief

Despite my entrepreneurial spirit, financial success had always seemed elusive. I realized that working longer hours for someone else was not the route to wealth for me. Although I recognized my lack of business acumen, I was confident in my ability to learn.

What I truly struggled with was the belief that I could earn the level of income I desired. During the early days of my business, I stumbled upon an idea that sparked my faith in eventual financial success:

All the wealth I aspired to already existed; I just needed to learn how to attract it.

This idea resonated with my logical mindset, leading me to understand that the knowledge I sought was also out there waiting for me.

Knowledge is Key

With this reasoning, it became clear that if I wanted to be wealthy, the resources were already available. However, wishing for money or success while sitting idly would not yield results. Instead, I needed a structured approach to earn money, which required acquiring knowledge.

Lessons from an Unexpected Source

I know a couple who have achieved substantial financial success, running a business in a field typically not known for high earnings. They work tirelessly, and interestingly, the husband isn’t particularly bright. Yet together, they acquired the essential knowledge to thrive in their industry.

Their story illustrates that this is not an isolated case.

Challenging Imposter Syndrome

Numerous articles discuss "imposter syndrome," where authors express persistent self-doubt. If you possess enough knowledge to write an article, you have the capacity to learn more and grow.

This isn't some mystical philosophy; it’s about putting in the effort. If you feel like an impostor due to a lack of skills, take action to develop them. Countless resources exist for learning—many have walked the path you aspire to take, so study their journeys.

If you find yourself writing about self-doubt, you also have the time to address it.

And if you’re reluctant to invest the effort required to gain the knowledge necessary for financial success, you might just be living as an imposter.

The first video, "There are 2 sides to self doubt. What side are you on?" explores the dual nature of self-doubt and encourages viewers to choose their perspective.

The second video, "How to Overcome Self-Doubt | Mel Robbins | SUCCESS," provides practical strategies for conquering self-doubt and building confidence in personal and professional life.
